UX is too obsessed with methods and toolkits Many argue online about the ‘right way’ of UX
Design is stuck in tradition and maintaining the status quo; There’s not enough flexibility
The democratization of UX is good; increased participation and discussion is better for everyone; UXers should stop drawing lines on who counts within the intersectional discipline
Not enough participation; the role of designer is inherently privileged; best is radical inclusion of residents engaged in the design process as lay designers themselves
UX focuses too much on wireframes and static artboards rather than contextual use; Technology design should be focused on long term development
UX designers are stuck in their own situations; open, continuous transformative solutions through ‘interpretive engagement’ allows us to engage with change 14

Expert Interviewee: Radio Host Jay Rose Ho or ‘Kaibigang Jay’ ● Born in 高雄 to Filipino immigrant mother (who was originally an overseas worker/OFW) ● Hosts “Feel at Home Ka Dito” Radio in Filipino (tagalog) on Taiwan Broadcasting Corporation since Feb. 2016 ● Every Sunday AM-1323 (台北), AM-621 (桃園), AM-1206 (新竹), and Online (First broadcast: 6-7pm) (Rebroadcast: 9-10pm 大溪&關西) ● The show’s 4 sections with Filipino folk music in-between: 1. Current affairs (uses Chinese for employer-related matters) and sometimes weather, 2. Broadcast of current news from the Philippines, 3. Rules and Regulations (at least 15 minutes) 4. Interview migrant workers (i.e. singing/talent contest winners, visiting artists, etc.) or Chinese learning ● Promoting the MOL-established 1955 telephone hotline, for migrant workers to make queries and file complaints ● Can submit questions or comments via FB page 21

(digital) My thesis is about prototyping an app/website that can help OFWs in Taiwan. What platforms and channels are the most used by OFWs in Taiwan? (issues/problem) Of all the issues that OFWs face, what would you say is the most pressing/biggest issue that OFWs face in adjusting to life in Taiwan? (digital) Have you heard of PH’s Project MECOnnect? It seems that the PH government released an app in 2018 for OFWs in Taiwan. Would do you think would be its most necessary features? (issues/solution) Is the government doing anything to counteract this? What about other social organizations? Overall, who’s doing the best job of helping OFWs in Taiwan?
