The incredibly pure carbon-rich gases are held and controlled in a chamber during the creation of these man-made diamonds. Methane and other carbon-rich gases are heated to around 800 degrees Celsius. These gases then disintegrate, allowing the carbon atoms inside the gas to separate. The carbon atoms then fall on a diamond substrate, forming layers and eventually forming a diamond crystal. The processing and further creation of Type IIa diamonds takes six to ten weeks for CVD diamond manufacturers.
