What a prop firm challenge actually costs

What a prop firm challenge actually costs The arithmetic behind trailing drawdown, daily limits and the consistency rule ElitePropX prop firm challenge passing service Every figure in this deck is the measured output of a seeded simulator, not an estimate. The script is published alongside the analysis. ElitePropX | elitepropx.com 1 / 13

Same trades, two different outcomes Two traders take identical trades on a $50,000 evaluation: a $6,000 profit target and a $2,500 drawdown. Trader A ends the week down $400 and is still alive. Trader B is dead while UP $2,700. Nobody made a different decision. The rulebooks were different shapes. ElitePropX | elitepropx.com 2 / 13

The three drawdown modes firms actually use STATIC the floor is fixed below the starting balance and never moves. $50,000 account, $2,500 limit: floor at $47,500 forever. TRAILING, ON CLOSED EQUITY the floor rises with the high-water mark of the closed balance. Close at $55,000 and the floor becomes $52,500. TRAILING, ON UNREALISED EQUITY the floor rises with the highest equity touched DURING a trade, even if the trade later closes at a loss. A fourth variant: TRAILING UNTIL BREAK-EVEN, where the floor trails your peak but is never allowed above your starting balance. ElitePropX | elitepropx.com 3 / 13

One walk, four rulebooks The same fixed trade sequence, run through each rulebook: static ALIVE equity $49,600 | P&L -$400 trailing->breakeven BREACHED day 11 (give-back) | P&L -$400 trailing on close BREACHED day 8 (give-back) | P&L +$2,900 trailing intraday BREACHED day 4 (give-back) | P&L +$2,700 Both full-trail accounts were up thousands of dollars when they died. Why the intraday account died on day 4 Day Day Day Day 1 2 3 4 entry entry entry entry $50,000 $50,900 $51,700 $53,000 peak peak peak peak $51,000 $51,800 $53,100 $55,200 floor floor floor floor $48,500 $49,300 $50,600 $52,700 closed +$900 closed +$800 closed +$1,300 ACCOUNT ENDED Trade four printed $55,200 of open profit. That alone dragged the failure floor to $52,700. A pullback to that level ended the account on a trade that, measured from its entry, was never close to a loser. No bad market call, no revenge trade, no broken stop. Administrative. ElitePropX | elitepropx.com 5 / 13

200,000 accounts per rulebook One walk proves a mechanism exists. It does not say how often it fires. Each rulebook run over 200,000 independent accounts, same generator: rulebook passed breached breach-while-ahead static 57.01% 20.40% 0.0% trailing->breakeven 47.77% 44.15% 0.0% trailing on close 38.34% 60.12% 40.9% trailing intraday 22.02% 77.93% 46.2% Same trades, same target pass rates from 22% to 57%. The finding that matters most About 4 in 10 full-trail breaches happen while the account is in profit. But the two rulebooks whose floor cannot rise above break-even both show 0.0% not just static, but also trailing-until-break-even, which genuinely trails your peak and is measurably harder than static. “Died while winning” is not a property of trailing drawdown. It happens if and only if the floor is allowed to rise above your starting balance. One sentence on a firm dashboard deletes that entire failure category. ElitePropX | elitepropx.com 7 / 13

What that spread costs, in fees Measured pass rates into E[attempts] = 1/p, same $500 fee: rulebook pass rate E[attempts] E[fee spend] static 0.5701 1.75 $877 trailing->breakeven 0.4777 2.09 $1,047 trailing on close 0.3834 2.61 $1,304 trailing intraday 0.2202 4.54 $2,270 Identical headline price. Expected bill differing by 2.5x. Choosing a static rulebook over an intraday trail is a bigger financial decision than choosing a $500 account over a $1,250 one. ElitePropX | elitepropx.com 8 / 13

The daily loss limit replaces the drawdown rule Same account, same $2,500 maximum drawdown. Worst single loss: $600. daily limit static trailing on close trailing intraday none 57.01% 38.34% 22.02% $1000 57.01% 38.34% 22.02% <- inert $900 27.75% 21.60% 14.44% <- dominant $600 0.24% 0.24% 0.24% <- replaces it At $1,000 the limit does nothing at all. By $600 every rulebook converges on 0.24% and 100% of breaches are the daily limit. A limit near your worst single loss is not a constraint on the drawdown rule it is the rule that actually ends your account. ElitePropX | elitepropx.com 9 / 13

Where the trail stops: the highest-value number Two trailing rulebooks, trail stopping at a +$3,000 profit lock: trailing on close 38.34% -> 45.99% (+7.66pp) expected fee $1,304 -> $1,087 trailing intraday 22.02% -> 45.99% (+23.97pp) expected fee $2,270 -> $1,087 Locking at +$3,000 takes the intraday pass rate from 22% to 46% and more than halves expected fee spend on the same account at the same price. Reaching the lock is not a milestone on the way to the target. It is the objective. ElitePropX | elitepropx.com 10 / 13

The consistency rule raises the finish line Consistency does not breach your account. It blocks your payout after the account is already passed. Target $6,000 with a 40% consistency cap: best day / total profit <= 0.40 $6,000 / total <= 0.40 -> total >= $15,000 Profit still required: $15,000 - $6,000 = $9,000 MORE, after already hitting the target. One exceptional day raises your finish line by 150%. The target and the finish line are not the same number. ElitePropX | elitepropx.com 11 / 13

A five-minute check on your own account Pull your actual rulebook and write these five numbers down: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Daily loss limit and whether it includes open float. Drawdown type static, trailing on close, or trailing intraday. Where the trail stops break-even, a stated lock, or never. The lock level reaching it changes which rulebook you trade. The consistency rule the percentage and the measurement period. A rule you cannot quote from memory is one you will misread at the moment it matters. ElitePropX | elitepropx.com 12 / 13
