Working With CSS Doesn’t Have To Make You Cry

A presentation at Letterform Lectures by Chen Hui Jing

A somewhat common scenario when it comes to web design is that of a designer handing over their painstakingly pixel-perfect mockups to a developer and experiencing the five stages of grief when they see the end result. This lecture will try to reconcile the two worlds by presenting a developer’s side of the story.

Occasionally, the designer’s work is being implemented by a developer who is not particularly aware of the intricacies of design. Often, there is a misunderstanding of the capabilities and behaviors of what is possible on the web. We will cover an overview of web typography, what is possible today with CSS versus the limitations of web platforms, and what might lie ahead.
