A presentation at An Event Apart in in Denver, CO, USA by Chen Hui Jing
Even though CSS grid is already five years old, usage isn’t as widespread as it could be — the 2021 Web Almanac showed only about 8% of public sites, and even that was double the share in 2020. We literally waited decades for a great web layout system, so now that we have one, why is it being adopted so slowly?
There are numerous factors at play that could determine whether a project uses CSS grid or not, and often, it’s more of a people challenge than a technical challenge. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to architecting CSS in a large project. In this session, Hui Jing will explore how being more deliberate and thorough when making key decisions can aid us in discovering an approach that works best for the context we are in, whether that’s Grid or something less advanced.
