The question is whether the factory can connect a finished device back to the LED batch, driver, inspection record, and change history that produced it. That record trail is what makes a recall, warranty claim, or repeat order manageable. Why Traceability Matters to Wholesale Buyers Traceability matters because red light therapy devices combine electronics, optical components, and user-contact materials in one product. A weak record trail turns a small field issue into a guessing game across an entire shipment. A strong trail narrows the question to a known lot and gives the buyer a practical way to isolate affected units. This is also a quality-system issue. FDA’s Quality Management System Regulation, or QMSR, took effect on February 2, 2026 and incorporates ISO 13485:2016 for finished device manufacturers. ISO 13485:2016 is the international quality management standard for medical devices. Even when a wellness device is not regulated as a medical device in a particular market, the same record discipline is useful because it makes manufacturing decisions visible and repeatable. What a Useful Lot Code Should Contain A useful lot code identifies more than the date of assembly. It should give the factory enough information to find the bill of materials revision, work order, test results, and shipment record linked to a group of devices. At a minimum, ask what the code represents. A date-only stamp is not enough. The supplier should be able to explain which digits identify the production period, which records connect to the work order, and how the code connects to the serial number on the unit.
