The School of Design

This isn’t an event, it’s everything I teach at The School of Design. Sadly, the way Notist is set up – behind the scenes – I have to badge it as an event.

After 20+ years teaching design at Belfast School of Art (whilst maintaining a studio, so I could create relevant learning materials), I’m calling it a day. From 1 January, 2021 my 100% heart and soul will be The School of Design, a community for design-focused entrepreneurs, building the products of tomorrow.

I’m building the school just now, focusing primarily on the creation of a library of everything I’ve ever learned, which I’m sharing for free.

The Library is a critical component in my vision. It’s the fuel that enables everyone in our learning community to realise their value. It comprises:

• everything I’ve learned – myself and from others – in industry over the last 30+ years;
• everything I’ve taught at Belfast School of Art over the last 20+ years; and
• everything I’ve taught to professionals, all over the world, through consultancy and conference workshops, over the last 15 years.

The emphasis is on lessons that can be applied to value creation at the intersection of design × business × life. It’s the coming together of design thinking (MFAs) and business thinking (MBAs).
