East Asian typography on the modern web

A presentation at TypeTech Meetup 2nd Session by Chen Hui Jing

Typography on the web used to be limited to mostly horizontal top-to-bottom layouts but modern CSS has made it possible for cater for a far wider range of writing systems, like vertical writing in traditional Chinese or Japanese. In addition, East Asian typography has always been a challenge on the web due to the sheer volume of glyphs in those typefaces. This talk will cover what is currently possible, but also touch upon potential solutions for the existing challenges and invite attendees to ponder how different writing systems are adapting to the digital world.
