Information architecture has traditionally focused on organising, structuring, and labelling information to help people find what they need. But what happens when static systems no longer work—when users need dynamic, AI-driven guidance rather than a fixed hierarchy? In healthcare, this challenge is critical. Patients navigating the NHS often face complex, fragmented pathways that make it difficult to reach the right service.
The NHS First Contact programme in NHS England in collaboration with London, is exploring how AI can help people access the right healthcare services more efficiently. By moving beyond traditional, fixed pathways for finding healthcare services, this approach adapts to individual needs, guiding users to the right care at the right time.
