LCN 4020T Parts Guide: A Practical Checklist for Getting the Right Part the First Time A wrong-part return costs more than the shipping label. The door stays broken, the technician makes a second trip, and somebody has to explain why a closer that was “just an arm away” from working is still hanging open. Most of that pain comes from ordering before the closer has been properly identified. This LCN 4020T parts guide is built as a working checklist. It shows where to find the details that matter, what the published part listings say about the 4020 series closer the 4020T is documented with, and how to match parts to your door so the first order is the right one. Everything product-specific below comes from Security Parts guides and part listings. Where your door could differ, the guide says what to check instead of filling the gap with a guess. Start Here: What the LCN 4020T Is The 4020T is a model name that appears in LCN parts documentation and in part listings. It is documented alongside the 4020, a heavy-duty, surface-mounted closer in the 4000 Series. The published details for that closer are short and useful: ● ● ● ● It mounts on the top jamb, on the head frame above the door. It is a handed closer, so right-hand and left-hand doors are not the same order. It has a flat-sided oval spindle. It needs about 1-1/2 inches of clearance behind the door for 90 or 180 degree installations.
● It is commonly seen on glass storefront doors, in healthcare settings, and in other frame-mounted applications. There is no published explanation for the “T” in the name that I could find, so this guide does not offer one. Treat the exact marking on your closer as the only definition that counts. Replace the Part or the Whole Closer? A cracked body, fluid leaking from the unit, or a closer that cannot hold its adjustment is usually a sign the whole closer is at the end of its life. A bent arm, damaged cover, or worn bumper is a different story. Those are replaceable on their own, and that repair is faster and cheaper. One more point. Many commercial doors are required to close and latch by themselves. On fire-rated or exit doors, talk to a qualified door hardware professional or your local authority having jurisdiction if you are unsure a repair is enough. Security Parts also has a guide on how to adjust a fire door closer for more background. Questions People Ask About the LCN 4020T Where do I find the model number on an LCN closer? On mechanical LCN closers it is stamped near the packing nut at the base of the pinion shaft, according to the Security Parts door closer guide. Concealed units have a label on the housing. Is the LCN 4020T handed? The 4020 series closer it is documented with is handed, so confirm your door hand before ordering. Which plate is used on a narrow head frame? The LCN 4000 Series guide says a head frame under 3-7/8 inches requires the 4020T-18 plate. Can I use an arm from a different LCN series? Not safely. Arms, covers and similar components are series-specific, and the oval and hex spindles do not cross over. Are the numbers cast into the closer the part numbers? No. Cast or stamped numbers on components are manufacturing references and should not be used for ordering. Do I always need to replace the entire closer? No. If the closer body is sound, arms, covers, plates and bumpers can usually be replaced individually. The Short Version Getting the right part for this closer comes down to a handful of checks: read the model marking, ignore casting numbers, confirm finish, size and hand, measure the head frame, and stay within your series for arms and spindles. Use this LCN 4020T parts guide as a checklist, compare your photos with the diagram, and verify the part number before you pay. Done in that order, the first order is usually the right one.
