Design Systems - A Foundation to Consistancy

A presentation at Digital Lincoln in in Lincoln, UK by Rob Whiting

As a part of Lincolnshire Techweek, Digital Lincoln is pleased to welcome UX expert Robert Whiting who will give a talk on Tuesday 16th May at the Boole Technology centre in Lincoln.

Rob is currently working as Head of User Experience for The Spencer Group. Prior to this in a varied career Rob has helped design better experiences for Eurostar, The BBC, The Royal Mail Group and ebuyer. Keen to share ideas, Rob works as part of Northern User Experience (NUX) - https://nuxuk.org/ - co-founded ‘UX Discuss’ - http://uxdiscuss.com/ - and helps run one of the largest UX communities in the world, Designer Hangout - https://www.designerhangout.co/.

Rob will talk about Design Systems, including aspects such as Style Guides & Pattern Libraries, which all aid in the production of a consistent, usable interface. They help speed up, standardise & streamline development and yet are often ignored and therefore unused.

Experienced in developing Design Systems—going back to when they used to be produced on paper and left in drawers—Rob is now an advocate of living, evolving digital solutions. Currently developing a Design System for one of the UK’s most innovative engineering firms Rob will offer interesting ideas and real-world recommendations on how to keep these essential foundations to consistency part of your process.

With an interest in graphic design & typography Rob is currently restoring an original Adana 8x5 letterpress with the goal of printing his own business cards, just before they become obsolete.
