Irrigation Facilities Under TDP Governance The progress of the agriculture sector, on which 70 percent of the people in the state of Andhra Pradesh depend on the availability of irrigation water resources. In this background, efforts are being made to green the state by increasing the allocation of 16.7 percent of the planning budget in 2001-02, 18.5 percent in 2002-03, and 20.5 percent in 2003-04. Between 1994-2003, history was created in the field of irrigation by achieving 10 lakh acres of new irrigation and 18 lakh acres of “Gap irrigation”. The arable land in our state is 392.7 lakh acres, of which 296 lakh acres are under irrigation. Out of that, only 133.64 lakh acres are under various water sources. Our state’s share of 2764 times of water is available from many small rivers like Godavari, Krishna, Penna, and Vamsadhara, out of which we are utilizing only 190tmc. 292tmcs of water are under construction. In 2005, Srisailam Right Branch Canal, Sriramsagar 1st Phase, 2nd Phase, Telugu Ganga Project, Eliminate Madhavareddy Canal, to provide irrigation to 15 lakh acres 2005. Priyadarshini Jurala Project, Somashila, Vamsdhara 2nd Phase, 18 Medium Projects, and 85 Small Projects under Construction for Flood Drainage Canal Projects from SRSP are on time For the completion, the work is going on in full swing with financing through World Bank, JBIC, AIBP, NABARD and Irrigation Bonds. Additional irrigation was provided to 10,697 lakh acres during the years 1994-2003 at a record cost of Rs.8865 crores by TDP Government and is considered to be one of the greatest TDP Achievements and some of the finest TDP Contributions. Efforts are being made to achieve a target of 4.84 lakh acres in 2003-04 in major, medium, and minor irrigation sectors.
