A presentation at Code.Talks in in Hamburg, Germany by Núria Peña
As designers, developers, and general tech people, we have to acknowledge the fact every person experiences the Web differently, and therefore build products that can be used by a diversity of people. In this talk, I want to share some simple guidelines designers and developers can follow to make digital products more accessible to everyone. We will also look into how some of these practices can positively impact the monetisation of a business.
The following resources were mentioned during the presentation or are useful additional information.
Colour blindness simulator (Mac App)
Vision simulator: Blur, contrast loss… (browser extension)
Checks colour contrast (browser extension)
Check if your foreground font and background colour have sufficient contrast.
Another contrast checker (this website quite more modern)
Stories about people with disabilities and which areas of the Web they find impact the most.
