Choice Is the Enemy of Good

A presentation at Voxxed Days Thessaloniki 2022 in in Thessaloniki, Greece by William Bartlett

Starting a new project can be a big source of anxiety. On the front-end it can be difficult to keep up with the state of the art. On the back-end, we can have quite a lengthy debate about which programming language to use. On both ends, we can even squabble an hour or two over which invisible character should begin each line of code.

Are all these choices benefiting us?

In this talk, we will explore the role context plays in determining the range of choices to consider, we will come to terms with the human element within any technical decision, and we will look at practices that mitigate the risk of imperfect decisions. Consequently, this will help us all get work done and feel good about it.
